El arco es la voz del violín, ya que a través de él le damos el ritmo, la intención o la personalidad de cada nota. La manera en que se hace contacto con la cuerda determina si es un sonido suave, preciso, con carácter o melódico. Existen varias maneras e intenciones de ejecutar las notas con el arco dándole carácter y emoción, que estas son:
Legato: este es un tipo de movimiento que permite ejecutar las notas de manera fluidas y es usado para lograr un sonido cálido, expresivo y suave que es muy usado en música melódica y cantables.
Staccato: es un movimiento para notas cortas y definidas que hace que la música sea enérgica con ritmos marcados.
Spicatto: es una técnica que hace que el arco rebote sobre la cuerda, es un movimiento virtuoso que genera sensación de ligereza y velocidad.
Colle: este es un agarre desde la cuerda con cierta presión y luego se suelta al momento de desplazar el arco, este movimiento es ideal para los acentos y pasajes rítmicos marcados.
Estos movimientos tienen su función a la hora de interpretar la música y es clave para la interpretación dándole vida, creando efectos sorprendentes, mágicos y hasta misteriosos al sonido.
