Breathing exercise for a healthy life

in mindfulness •  3 months ago

Yoga, Meditation and Pranayama should be a part of everyday life. It is just like eating food and taking bath which are our daily rituals and if we do not do that, we would feel starved and dirty. Likewise, Yoga, Meditation and Pranayama are the food for our soul and mind and also the physical body. Everything that impacts the mind impacts the physical body. A healthy mind will result into a healthy body and vice versa.

Today I will like to talk about Pranayama. Prana means breadth and Pranayama is the exercise of focusing on the breadth in different ways. There are many different types of Pranayama that one can do to bring mindfulness in their breadth. On a regular basis we do not even pay attention on our breathing and if we start focusing on it we will realize that how shallow we breathe on a regular basis. Hence dedicating some time to do proper pranayama will make a big difference to the physical body. A lot of physical ailments also occur due to lack of enough oxygen in the body, it will reduce the capacity of our lungs and give all lung related health problems which are connected to breathing.

Some of the most easy Pranyamas are the Box Breathing, Deep Breathing, Belly breathing. These are the ones which you can do it even when you are engaged in some activity. You just need to focus on the breath and bring a rhythm in it. In the box breathing, you visualize a box in front of you where you breath to a count of 4, hold to a count of 4 and exhale to a count of 4. This type of breathing not only allows you to slow down but it also brings in mindfulness. You can do it at any time of the day.

Just being conscious about the breadth will change the way of breathing and keep the body in a calm and relaxed manner all the time. If you feel angry, agitated or any such feeling at any given time then the best thing to do is a focus breathing.

Then there are some Pranayama which needs focused effort like the Anulom Vilom and Kapalbhatti. Just a 15 mins of focus breathing in a day will change the whole dynamics of the physical body. The lungs capacity will get better, problems like blood pressure, anxiety, depression, stress will get better. Brain function will also be good and there will be increased focus and concentration.

These are the ancient practices which were developed without any scientific interventions but all of these are scientifically proven to be very beneficial. Our ancestors understood the body and mind much better then us and hence they also lived longer and healthier lives. There were no autoimmunes and cancers in those days. Even if there were, they were very miniscule in numbers. Just a little respect if we start giving to our body by doing the right things, it is going to giving us back in abundance.
