The allegation that the prosecution was involved in the Marine Corps investigation during the death of Corporal Chae was raised during the parliamentary audit last year.
[Park Joo-min / Democratic Party of Korea (October 2023 / State audit): Prosecutors from Pohang branch called the Navy's prosecutors 9 times. Is that right?]
[Jo Ju-yeon / Daegu District Prosecutors' Office Pohang Branch (October 2023 / State audit): We talked on the phone several times, but...]
The case was not even transferred to the police, so the prosecution could not intervene, but it was found to have called 9 times, which caused controversy.
It is said that the prosecution attempted to intervene without guaranteeing the independence of military police guaranteed in the revised Military Court Act.
But the suspicion fizzled out as the prosecution explained that it was only a phone call related to the medical examination of Chae.
However, the Marine Corps investigator, who appeared as a witness in the trial of the former Marine Corps investigation team leader Park Jung-hoon, testified differently.
"On August 1st last year, I heard a prosecutor A from Pohang Branch calling the Navy military prosecutor and saying, 'Please hand over the case of Chae Sang-byung to Pohang Branch.'
JTBC's report confirmed that the high-ranking government official's crime investigation office secured the same statement from the investigator in October last year.
Another investigator also secured a statement, saying, "I heard that prosecutor A asked for data from the military prosecutor and asked if he wanted data on the incident or even data on the crime of the cause of death, saying, 'If you give me everything, I will review it.'
There was also a statement that Prosecutor A did not participate in the autopsy.
The Senior Civil Servant Corruption Investigations Unit has already secured the prosecution's explanation and a number of other statements.
The prosecution explained that the case or data request to JTBC was not true, and Prosecutor A replaced his work during the vacation.
He has not called since August 2 last year, when the military prosecution recovered the case, but he said, "We refrained from contacting the presidential office to prevent misunderstanding due to suspicions of external pressure through the media."
However, suspicions of involvement in the presidential office began to be reported five days later.
[Rep. Park Joo-min/Democratic Party of Korea: It is an answer that the prosecution knew in advance that there was an intervention in the (President's Office) and stopped such requests in advance]
The timing of the prosecution's call partly coincides with the time when the National Security Office began requesting a report from the Marine Corps Investigation Team, raising questions about whether there was an organized movement to understand the military investigation.
How can you trust these people.
The first thing that needs to be reformed in our society is
I don't think there's anyone who doesn't know that it's the prosecution and the police.
Please stop the lame show saying what justice you are doing.
I want to see the prosecution set up as soon as possible.
