They Can't Stop What's Coming
I got my Crypto.com Visa Debit card rejected back to back by Royal Mail and Post Office. Everyone else accepts it, even Amazon.com. I've used it in the supermarkets, on the London Underground and other places. Yes, sometimes the wireless payment option fails and I have to type in the pin (I think that's a security feature I can configure in the app), but it always works online. Except, of course, on the Royal Mail website.
I've never tried any other cyrpto cards with Royal Mail or the Post Office, but I'm willing to bet any of the other ones; Coinbase card, Wirex, Uphold Card etc, will also fail. It made me wonder; does Royal Mail feel threatened by crypto firms like Crypto.com? After all, the Post Office is functionally a bank these days, providing much of the same financial services a regular bank does. In fact the Post Office is the last brick and mortar financial institution left in many residential areas in the UK as banks close their high street outlets all over the country. We used to have 9 banks in my area, now we only have one.
It's a sign of the changing times. I think that the new ear of self-custody is going to vastly affect these banks. If they don't embrace change and get with the program, they're going to fizzle out like Blockbusters
Peace & Love,
