In this modern world every transaction is done in a digital way. From transferring cash, documents, letters and more it happens online through the use of the internet. What I have learned from week 1 isa that threat is everywhere even on the internet. As the digitalization evolved, the threat on the internet has also increase and becoming more advance. We have learned that on the internet you can be attacked by hackers accessing your personal information as well as robbing your money bank account if you are not careful. These attacks are in a form of viruses, there are also applications and websites that are secretly gathering sensitive information about you that are in disguised these are called adware, spyware, and ransomware.
Viruses are not only limited to humans, but there are also digital viruses that are threat to our system. Some viruses can slow down your system’s performance. Unlike viruses trojan works in a different way in hide its identity as look as it is safe to use, but when clicked or installed on a computer it is when it starts to attack your system, making your system vulnerable. We should also be aware that system has now algorithms that tracks our online activity. In this way they can suggest or advertise products based on our activity online, and this is called adware. It may not be harm as the viruses, but this also means that you have been spied or an algorithm is tracking your activity online. Ransomware on the other hand is the most advanced threat among the rest. It has the ability to make your system inaccessible in exchange for money so you can gain access to your system again.
We may wonder why these threats happens, they can happen for a variety of reasons and opportunities. Your system application may have a faulty defense which makes it vulnerable to hackers. But there is also way to prevent these things from happening your system application access control, procedural controls, technical controls and compliance controls these protocols can help you lessen the threat that are presents online.
