On New Year’s Eve I had left all the candles and trees on. It’s rather magical, the way the light is in the morning with the shades still up. It’s like this only twice a year, on Christmas morning and New Year’s morning.

I got my post up on the gloomy day, made a huge cup of tea, and cleaned the kitchen up. I messed around with the bills/budget some, then around 10:30AM I decided to try to get all the candles out of the windows and put away before my grandchild arrived at 1PM.

The supervisor was on the job right away.

The new storage box had to be thoroughly inspected.

It’s a long hard job but someone has to do it.

I had wanted a box big enough so the candelabras could stand up and I could sort the candles by areas, making it easier to put them up. There are about 45 candles to deal with. Everything fit nicely with room to spare. I got it into the vestibule of the attic stairway. My helper friend will get it up the stairs and into the attic for me.

I finished about 1:30PM. My grandchild and mom were running late and arrived about 2PM.

When I opened the door, she zoomed in and beelined for the Christmas tree. She was intent on finding the pickle so she could get her present. I had made it really easy for her this year, as last year she had hunted for 45 minutes!

She found it quickly and opened her present, the set of Catwings stories. Then she went to the games drawer and got out pick up sticks and we played several rounds. I actually won once! Next out was Chinese checkers.

We played a few games and then went to showing me her needle felting. She made it quite clear it was NEEDLE felting and I was to use that phrase.

I had never done or seen needle felting done and she had brought her project she was working on. It was a toadstool and a log on grass so far. When she asked me what the things were, I said the log was a wooly bear caterpillar.

I asked her to teach me how to do it, so we sat and made wooly bear caterpillars. Mine is on the white foam pad. I was even able to add eyes to it! But it was too big for her project. So she made a much smaller one.

We had settled on the project needing a stone and she had started it when she decided to resume the Chinese checkers. I think I won once.

So she and her mom and I played several more games. Then she made up a game on the checker board that only had 4 marbles per player. I won that one. It was late and time for them to go.

We resolved to be better about visits and hope to plan one for end for January, as she and I and Larry all have birthdays in that month.

After pulling the shades (very late) and getting the stoves going, I heated up some supper and sat down and watched a Christmas movie.

On Thursday it’s to be partly sunny, cold, and very windy. My helper friend comes at noon. He’ll have errands, a few chores, cooking, and maybe we will finish the pantry. We have 5 hours to fill. I should finish the bills/budget in the morning as it’s nearly done.
