When I got up at 6AM on Thursday morning, this is what I saw out the back door. That’s all sleet, little ice balls.
When I pulled the shades up at 7AM, it was still coming down but you could still see green in the pastures.
It was very heavy and I couldn’t sweep it so I had to shovel off all the walks and stairs. This is what happened when I finished the front walkway and put away the shovel, got the camera and came back out. It was pretty slippery and I had sanded as I cleared areas.

New Herb garden
As I walked around the house to do steps, I found this poor little Jan Bos hyacinth in the New East garden. I hadn’t even known it was up yet.
I don’t guess I’ll be doing tarps on Saturday.
My poor daffodils looked so sad in the New South garden. I didn’t lose many of them, about 4 I think in all the gardens. As long as they bow down as these did they are okay. But some of them break under the strain and they can’t spring back up.
In the South garden if you look, you can see one of the stems broke. (Third from bottom.)
You can see in this picture it was really coming down.
The grass was quite high at the barn.
The back 40
It started to change over to snow and snow quite heavily between 8AM and 9AM, big flakes. The ground became all white as it continued to snow all morning. I had shoveled an inch of sleet before the snow started.
A support on my chair came off and I tried to fix it and got really sick by turning my head upside down to see what I was doing. That was around 10:30AM and eventually I went to bed and didn’t get up until 1PM. The snow had stopped and the warm front had come in. Things were melting quickly.
I made lunch and tried to get the seedlings watered but only got half of them done. I rested until my brother came home at 5PM.
We made a parsnip chowder and I watched The Legend of Bagger Vance before heading to bed around 9PM.
On Friday I have a busy day. I have to write up a bunch of recipes and make shopping lists for the ingredients. I need to do chores, breakfast and get ready for exercise class at 9AM. When I get home I need to finish watering the seedlings and making the lists from recipes. My general helper will be here at 8AM on Saturday and we will go shopping, then come home and cook up a storm.
