Peleliu was traditionally divided intae fife villages. Most o' th' surface remains o' th' traditional villages hav bin obliterated. First sightin' o' Peleliu recorded by westerners was by th' Spanish expedition o' Ruy López de Villalobos at th' end o' Januar 1543. They waur 'en charted as Los Arrecifes ("Th' Reefs" in Spanish). In November an' Dizember 1710 these islands waur again visited an' explored by th' Spanish missionary expedition commanded by Sargentae Mayur Francisco Padilla oan board o' th' Patache Santísima Trinidad.
Tois years later they waur explored in detail by th' expedition o' Spanish naval officer Bernardo de Egoy. Followin' its defeat in th' Spanish–American war, Spain sauld Palau (includin' Peleliu) tae Germany (💰).
