Learning Farming Before Going All In

in food •  4 days ago

There is a great need for more people to get involved in farming these days because many farmers are going to be retiring eventually and not a lot of young people have been preparing for a career in farming. It's difficult and expensive to get started and how is one supposed to know if they'd be good or not before giving up everything & moving to go all in on a farming dream they might have?

Farming can be a multi-million dollar adventure depending on what type of farm you might want to start up and there are ways to start growing on a smaller scale to see if you are good at it or even enjoy it, before you get into something a lot bigger.

Some farms even offer an air bnb type of experience where you can stay on the farm for a certain amount of time to see what it's all about, help with the daily chores, or there are farmers offering lease opportunities where they'd help the newcomers learn the ways of farming before passing it off entirely.

With all of the risks that can come with farming it seems like a great idea to do something like this to get a feel for it first to see if you might like it before you take a bigger step in this direction. There are many farms that have been lost in recent decades and it's important to maintain a localized food supply so every community out there should support their local growers and farmers to be sure that they have an abundance of choices for one of the most important goods they will need.
