Parece que algunas cerveceras no olvidan los viejos estilos. Es de agradecer que no todo lo que saquen las fábricas de cerveza artesana sean IPA afrutadas, que aunque están buenas, han perdido toda la esencia del estilo y el sabor afrutado arrasa con todo lo demás. Una West Coast IPA es un subestilo de las American IPA y debe ser amarga, seca, de color cristalino y transparente y con mucho lúpulo. Si algún matiz frutal debe aparecer en tu paladar, es el cítrico y nada más.
Este estilo es originario, como su propio nombre indica, de la Costa Oeste Americana. Fue a finales de la década de los 80 cuando apreció por primera vez.
La primera podría ser la Migration Brewing Straight Outta Portland IPA (Portland, Oregon). Y para mí el mejor exponente del estilo es la Pliny the Elde de Russiean River Company.

Pues volviendo a la cerveza que os muestro hoy, es una buena interpretación del estilo. Es amarga, transparente, seca, cítrica, resinosa y muy herbal. Me ha encantado.
Ojalá sigamos viendo con más frecuencia este estilo en las nuevas referencias que saquen las cerveceras.
