    ⭐️OffChain Weekly Spotlight:

Meet the co-founder & visionary of OffChain Luxembourg asbl - Sorin Cristescu

Could you share a bit about your background and current focus?

I have a diverse background. Young, I was dreaming of becoming a successful scientist and wrote a PhD in molecular biology. In the second half of the 90-ies I fell in love with computers and gradually turned my career toward IT development and architecture, where I got a second MSc. This is where my focus lies still today. I work as an Enterprise Architect for the European Commission. My work involves designing and specifying software, and integrating it in a corporate landscape that takes into account needs, skills and technological value.

What inspired you to join theOffChain family, and what do you value most about it?

I am keenly aware of contemporary social and economic challenges. Among technologies, I believe blockchain, “the trust machine”, is one of the most relevant breakthroughs of the past decades. I co-founded OffChain Luxembourg as a grassroots effort to leverage blockchain technology for addressing the challenges societies face today. The way our organisation has developed over the past year fills me with pride. It is living proof that crypto significantly increases the effectiveness of voluntary collaboration.

Beyond blockchain, what personal passion or pursuit fuels your creativity?

I love teaching, and that includes creating original teaching material. I teach blockchain in the University of Lille in France, in the Digital Learning Hub in Luxembourg and with OffChain Luxembourg.

Where do you see OffChain heading in the future, and what excites you most?

Our vision is to act as the cement that strengthens the social fabric in Luxembourg and the Greater Region, while contributing to increased prosperity. Our initiatives have sprung up in a unique point in time and space: increased awareness about the alternatives blockchain offers, crossing with the new MiCA legal framework, in the specific geography of the cosmopolitan Luxembourg and its Greater Region. We want to be among the main actors in a transformation that will see our society becoming more confident, robust and resilient. We all need to come back at caring more about our next of kin than we care about money.
