Hi community!
There is very little chance that the team will return there this season.
Barcelona gave Limak the Espai Barça project for the construction of the new Camp Nou. It was a surprising decision because the Turkish company was not one of the big names in the sector. The board defended its choice because of the low price and because it guaranteed that the team would be able to play its matches again in January 2025. The stadium would not be finished, it would have a capacity of 60,000 spectators, but football matches could already be played there.
Things have not gone as expected and the forecasts are not very encouraging. The works are not finished in this first phase and will take some time to be done. The Board had already announced that the team would return in February at the earliest. Firstly because the works were not going well, but, above all, because UEFA regulations required the team to play all its Champions League first phase matches in the same stadium. And in January there are two games to be played.
From now on, nobody knows when they will be able to return. Everything indicates that it will be next season because the club must inform UEFA by February 21 at the latest which stadium they will play the second phase on. And the club is not very optimistic that the Camp Nou will be finished on that day.
Laporta was asked last week about the date of the return. The president is not getting involved, aware of the difficulties he is encountering: “We have always said that we will return when the right circumstances arise. If unforeseen events occur, we cannot do anything. It has not been a bed of roses. The return? We want it to be as soon as possible, but we have to comply with UEFA regulations.”
See You soon!
