You can see here two specimens of the mineral Volborthite which was probably found for the first time in Russia in the Ural Mountains and then named by the doctor or mineralogist Alexander von Volborth (1800-1876) who discussed it in more detail in his writings. From the systematics established by the mineralogist James Dwight Dana (1813 - 1895), the mineral is also counted in the class of arsenates, vanadates and phosphates and due to the rarity there is no significant economic application and it is particularly known in the circles of collectors. The surface of Volborthite is somewhat reminiscent of a sponge or crust and the color can vary and it typically has a green or yellow color and a reason for the different color is often the addition with other minerals. The surface that is somewhat reminiscent of a sponge comes into its own with one of these minerals and there are also specimens that have a shiny appearance which sometimes look like pearls and it is a rare mineral that has been found at just 150 different locations to date and the origin can be attributed to oxidation within vanadium deposits where it is found together with other minerals. There are also some reports of discoveries in which the mineral occurred in copper-containing deposits and the most important locations include Spain, Greece, Poland, USA or England.
