Here you can see a painting by the artist Lovis Corinth (1858 - 1925) who was particularly specialised in Impressionism and is considered one of the most important German representatives of this genre. He was born as a child of farmers who also operated a tannery and together he grew up together with his half-siblings in Tapiau and he attended a school in the Prussian city of Königsberg and here he had already left his family and had the opportunity to live with his aunt. A few years later his mother died and this was the reason for him to go back to his homeland and a few years later his father decided to sell the house and move with Lovis to Königsberg where he had the opportunity to attend an art academy in 1876 and developed more and more and more interest in art. Some time later he went first to Munich and then to Paris to continue his studies and during this time he was influenced a lot by other artists and devoted himself to various art epochs and a few years later he interrupted his studies to do a voluntary year in the military. After his time in the military, he travelled a lot and then decided to continue his studies as an artist and a few years later he was able to achieve his first successes and his paintings were even exhibited in London and the Netherlands. In 1887 he travelled a lot and also visited Berlin and began to paint his first portraits and in the coming years he travelled a lot through Germany and was often in Munich where he was known for participating a lot in artistic circles and more and more paintings followed and his popularity as an artist increased steadily. In 1901 he moved completely to Berlin and later he became one of the founding members of the Secession group and together with his group he organised many exhibitions where his works were often shown and there he also had contact with some famous artists and he opened his own painting school in Berlin. Through his school, his popularity as an artist also grew and he received many honours and in the coming years he often travelled and made many new contacts and regularly visited exhibitions and soon he also married and became a father. In 1918 he was appointed to an academy for artists in Berlin and got the opportunity to work as a professor there. Together with his wife, they left Berlin at that time and moved to the Lake Walchen and at the same time his works became more and more popular and were shown in some large cities and until his death he was very enthusiastic about art and he died during a visit to the Dutch city of Zandvoort.
