Hey dear community, I hope you all have a weekend so far which is full of positive experiences and your mood and is in good condition! In this post, I would like to present a mineral again and hope you are able to expand your knowledge.
Here you can see two specimens of the mineral Cuprostibite, which is a rare mineral that was first found in the middle of the 20th century in Greenland. From the structure, it is also counted to the mineral class of the sufides as well as sulfosalts and in the chemical composition it is rich in copper or antimony and probably it was also named on this basis and is derived from the Latin words cuprum for copper and stibium for antimony. The mineral was discovered and later described not like mostly by one person but by a whole research team who had discovered the mineral near the city of Narsaq and this area is generally very well known for the occurrence of numerous rare minerals and it's also one of the youngest city in Greenland. In the circles of mineralogists, the disocvery spread more and more and it was quickly mentioned in different writings that revolve around minerals and to this day it is mainly very popular in the circles of collectors and because of the rarity there are no significant economic applications. The color of Cuprostibite can vary greatly and there are gray, black or purple specimens and these specimens are a good example of the typical purple color and under the influence of light it has a shiny surface and I hope I was able to express the effect well in the pictures. It is often found with minerals with similar components and it forms as part of other rock bodies and it has only been found in a few locations to date and among the best known are England, France, USA or Russia.
