These are musings over what it takes to become successful in Moonkarts, and run an account as closely as possible to a professional racing team. I had these thoughts a while back while I was playing the game, and learning about the mechanics and the economy. Moonkarts is not just a game you boot up on saturday evening to have fun with your friends or relax after a long day. It is much more like a business, operating a franchise inside of an organized digital racing environment, with inherent costs and limitations, but also financial rewards to the winners. In that sense, it is more NASCAR than Mario Karts, and in order to be successful here, three "roles" must be fulfilled. One person can fulfill the three roles, but they need to shift their thinking to a multi-dimensional approach. The three personalities are the Owner, the Race Director and the Driver. We will go over each in detail here.
The Owner
The owner is the person who spends the money, decides how much is reasonable to spend and expects a return on investment. He oversees the whole project and ultimately has to decide wether the venture is worth it, or not, and how much he will have to spend before he can make profits, how much profits to aim for, etc. The owner is greedy, he wants to spend as little as possible, while making maximum rewards. He is always pushing for profitability and has the ultimate control on whether or not to continue the project, or sell out. The job of the other two personas are, ultimately, to keep him happy and supportive of the enterprise.
The Race Director
The race director must be an expert on the mechanics of the game, the meta, and how to be successful within the scope of the game. He is the one that goes to the market and decides what the team needs in order to operate. He decides which kart and parts are to be used, how much fuel can be spent each race, and he provides the driver with a winning formula so that he, in turn, can do his job and earn colony for the owner. He allows the owner to spend efficiently and realistically achieve returns. He is in charge of day to day operations and ultimately reports to the owner.
The Driver
The driver must be able to focus entirely on racing, and log hours in order to earn rewards. He uses the kart given to him by the race director, and makes the most out of it, seeking to better his lap times through skill and force of will. The driver inherently wants to win races, and might want to use more fuel than the race director's strategy demands. He will sometimes have to deal with the frustration of losing in the short term in order to maximize long term earnings. This is why the driver is a different "persona" from the race director and the owner, since he has a different focus and a "conflict of interest" with these two. The driver dreams of being a whale and driving the fastest car, but it is not realistic so this instinct must be kept in check.
Once you have mastered the three "personalities", you will have everything you need to build a successful franchise within the world of Moonkarts. Team Leq Racing is already there. What are you waiting for?
