Developed in 1934 by Elmer Keith, the 357 Smith & Wesson Magnum was developed to increase the power level of the 38 Special to combat bootleggers, car doors, and body armor of the day. Now, the 357 Magnum is ubiquitous with words like “stopping power” and is both a hunting and self-defense round.
