Before reading this book, I hope you provide tissues. One of the recommendations (in my opinion) for you to read. A book with a very large work, historical fiction that stirs emotions and feelings. I can't even imagine with my own thoughts about that situation.

It is called historical fiction because there is a little storyline based on historical events in Indonesia in 1998. I think everyone knows that the birth of the Indonesian reformation was in 1998 and it was quite hurtful to this nation. As a result, many people disappeared and died fighting for reform.

This book is very worthy for you to read, a little heavy with a historical background that is so draining on my mind about my return to that time. But believe me, this book has won many awards, one of which is the S.E.A Write Award in 2020.

We start by looking at a cover of this novel. There is a sea with lots of fish in it, it is definitely the bottom of the sea. Not only that, I am increasingly curious about the tone of 2 legs tied with chains. Here's how the author describes this story in one cover.

So, the book 'Laut Bercerita' takes 2 points of view from 2 people. A boy named Biru Laut, and the second part is a girl named Asmara Jati. These two characters are two siblings who were in the 'New Order' era in 1998. Okay, I will describe the 'New Order' as an authoritarian regime controlled by the military in order to create political stability from 1966 to 1998.

Well, at that time, there were many things that could not be done, one of which was the creation of an ideal democracy. People were not allowed to group together to express their opinions and also all policies were very binding on the community which ultimately made everything tense. How can a country with a democratic system not provide comfort in expressing opinions, gathering and being sovereign?

Biru Laut is a student who is active on campus, has many activities and interests including in the world of literature. Coinciding with that time, there were many books that were strictly prohibited from being distributed, one of which was a book by Pramoedya Ananta Toer. Because of this, Biru Laut and his friends were finally sought after by someone in power at that time, then strongly criticized for being active in democracy.

In fact, this novel does tell the whole story in 1998. The riots that occurred and everything that happened to the students at that time, we can read from the perspective of Biru Laut. How he was criticized until he finally disappeared from the surface.

I will not explain the details of the story, because I really want you to be very curious about the contents of this book until you actually read it.

One of the things I like, the author is very good at emphasizing every sentence and taking me to that gloomy year, until finally my emotions raged and hoped that Biru Laut and his friends would finally go home.
